How it works
Your file is decoded in the browser using the Web Audio API. The audio track is extracted instantly — no real-time playback wait, no server upload.
Output is uncompressed WAV (16-bit PCM) — perfect for editing in Audacity, Adobe Audition, or any DAW. For smaller MP3 files, convert the WAV in a desktop tool after download.
Which audio format should I pick?
| Format | Best for | Typical size (1 hour) |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 (128 kbps) | Music, podcasts, sharing | ~55 MB |
| MP3 (320 kbps) | High quality music | ~140 MB |
| AAC | Best quality per byte | ~50 MB |
| WAV (uncompressed) | Editing, mastering | ~600 MB |

Frequently asked questions
What video formats are supported?
Common formats including MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, and FLV. The browser uses the same decoders as your media player, so if the video plays in Chrome or Edge it can be converted.
Should I use MP3, WAV or AAC?
Use MP3 (128-192 kbps) for general listening — small files, universal support. Use WAV when you need uncompressed audio for editing in Audacity or Adobe Audition. Use AAC for the best quality at small sizes (it is the format used by iTunes and YouTube).
Can I convert YouTube videos with this tool?
No. This tool only works with video files you already have on your device. Downloading YouTube videos violates YouTube's Terms of Service and is not supported.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Audio extraction happens in your browser using Web APIs. Your video file never leaves your device — important for confidential interviews, drafts, and private recordings.
What is the maximum file size?
There is no fixed limit, but very large files (above 2 GB) may exceed browser memory limits depending on your device. For best results, convert files under 1 GB.
